Developing young lifesavers is essential for the ongoing delivery of lifesaving and water safety education in local communities. Adult lifesavers play a vital part in supporting young people to take a more active role in local lifesaving.
To become a Tutor for either of RLSS UK’s youth development awards, just purchase the pack and work through the material, which provides adult lifesavers with the knowledge and information to run the award. As well as developing young people’s lifeasving leadership skills, the awards provide young people with extra skills and qualifi cations to assist in their pursuit of further education and a career.
RLSS UK Young Leaders
The RLSS UK Young Leaders Award is an introductory leadership award designed for young people aged 12+ to learn fundamental leadership skills (alongside a qualifi ed trainer). The award provides candidates with the skills to run a lifesaving event (with support), such as a Rookie Festival.
Young Leaders Tutor Pack

Simply work through the material in the Tutor Pack and return the registration form to RLSS UK Head Offi ce for verifi cation. This essential resource contains everything you need to both qualify for and run the award.
Tutors of this award must be 16yrs + and hold one of the following qualifi cations: Rookie Instructor or higher, qualifi ed school teacher, Level 2 Coach, Sports Leader UK Tutor, ASA Teacher/Coach. Other qualifi cations may be considered - please contact RLSS UK Head Offi ce for details.
RLSS UK Assistant Instructor Award
The Assistant Instructor Award trains young people to support a qualifi ed Lifesaving Instructor (enabling the young person to assist with the training of Lifesaving and Life Support Awards). Aimed at lifesavers 14yrs+, this is the foundation teaching award of the RLSS UK and the fi rst step towards Lifesaving teaching.
