KINETIC ARCADE RECEIVES ELEGANT NEW LED LIGHTING DESIGN

Festival. This festival features a series of events, workshops and pro- jections, and aims to connect ambi- tious art with imaginative technology, while
shedding new
light on low carbon innovation. Aiming to enable the work of the artistic and creative minds involved with the festival, Pulsar has supplied a range of ChromaRange LED lighting fixtures to support the creation of more interactive and breathtaking installations that were the hallmark of last year’s pilot. “It’s been a pleasure working with the artists involved,” explained Simon Cox, Pulsar’s head of sales. “Discussing their concepts and ideas and working out how we can provide a solution - turning their vision into reality is a really exciting part of what we do here at Pulsar. Working on international lighting projects is a large part of our business, so it’s great to be a part of something at home here in Cambridge.” Working in particular with light artist Susie Olczak and her series of Colour Shift installations, Pulsar is providing lighting to illuminate the foyer of Cambridge law firm, Taylor Vinters, and will also be a key part of her major piece transforming the Wilkins’ Screen at King’s College, Cambridge. Utilising 18 TriColour ChromaFlood 200s and a specially programmed Pharos control system with motion sensors. The installa- tion creates a dynamic colour chang- ing effect across the screen, mimicking the movements of people passing by.

Meeting complex requirements In other news, the new ‘t Walletje busi- ness complex now stands out with an innovative and dynamic lighting design by Magic Monkey. Featuring a unique kinetic panel facade that follows the sun’s daytime movements, the scheme utilises 132 specially customised ChromaStrip X3 linear LED fixtures to illuminate each panel and meet the stringent technical requirements of the project tender. Magic Monkey developed a scheme
that would uplight and graze the perfo- rated bronze metal panels when in their night positions. Marc Largent, managing director of Magic Monkey, explained his concept for the project, “When night falls, the building comes alive with a warm glowing light of the same amber colour of
the bronze anodised alu-
minium metal panels. The perforated panes will appear as shadow patterns in front of the warm amber, grazing the sur- face of the wall behind each panel, and by individually controlling each fixture - spectacular animated effects can be achieved on all four facades.” Once the design was defined, it was clear the technical requirements for the job would be complex due to the mecha- nism of the kinetic panels. Offering a reli- able solution, Pulsar was able to match the tender specification exactly and pro- vide not just specialist amber LEDs but also a gold powder-coat finish and spe- cially designed snoot to conceal both fix- ture and light source. The lighting fixtures, their additional features, and the available technical sup- port, helped win the contract. Largent was extremely happy with the outcome, commenting,
