News Industry Comment Kicking-off 100 year celebrations

TO CELEBRATE 100 years of pro- duction, the Prysmian Group is run- ning a series of commemorative events at its various sites around the country throughout 2014. The first of

these was held recently in

Prior to discussing the contents of the February issue, I would like to turn our readers’ attention to next month when we will be rolling-out a new design across the Connecting Industry portfolio. With a new, modern look and feel for the magazines we can’t wait to unveil the new design to our readers - so look out for the March issues. Back to this month, with the weather in some parts of the UK reaching biblical proportions over the last few weeks, some may be crying out for some ‘light’ at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps we can offer some succour in the form of our latest Lighting & Lighting Controls Supplement. As well as some of the latest products and solutions from this sector we’ll also be offering some advice on LED specification. Also this month we’ll be covering enclosures, energy efficiency, fire safety, training and cabling, plus there will be a full preview of the Maintec exhibition taking place in March at the NEC in Birmingham. breaking projects with

which it is currently involved - the installation of fibre optic broadband cable to every house in Jersey, the Western Link power distribution project, and the increasing involve- ment in renewable energy. Prysmian’s centenary year will

see each of the company’s four manufacturing sites hold open days for all staff as well as a series of customer focused events. A par- ticular emphasis this year will be placed on education and recruit- ment. The objective is to encourage

students of all ages (including schoolchildren) to understand what manufacturing is about and to appreciate that engineering and technology-based industry offers a rewarding career path. www.prysmiangroup.com

engineers more quickly to meet their demands. “Like many of our customers, we give high priority to efficiency,” said Richard Crook, operations manager at WEG. “With our new facility we can provide a better and faster service from order receipt to delivery and assist our customers more quickly with custom modifications or technical problems.” For example, WEG can now stock products that

would previously have been shipped from Brazil, reducing delivery time by up to ten days. This means it can better serve its customers in the UK while continu- ing to providing excellent levels of customer service. “This investment also shows our commitment to growth in the UK and Redditch,” continued Crook. “We value the skilled workforce we have here in Worcestershire, so staying in the area was a natural decision for us.” www.weg.net
