Arburg and Männer show dripper moulding at 1.9s


German machinery maker Arburg demonstrated 64-cavity production of thin-wall water irrigation system droppers on a 100 tonne all-electric Allrounder 470A machine running a cycle time of 1.91s. Produced in PE on a mould by German mouldmaker Männer, the 0.15g thin wall components featured a complex geometry incorporat- ing sharp edges and fine internal bores. The system is capable of producing around


500m parts per year at a tolerance of ±5 microns. The mould incorporated a special surface finish claimed to improve release of the parts from the cavities while conformal cooling was used to ensure maximum cooling capacity. Melt distribution was by a Männer hotrunner with cylindrical valve gates. Arburg’s stand also


featured a new automation system developed together with FPT Robotik that sus-


pends an Agilus six-axis robot from Kuka on a linear axis. This arrangement is said to enable faster dynamics and quicker entry and exit from the mould space, while maintain- ing the sophisticated out-of- the-mould automation benefits of an articulated robot. The system on display was designed for a workload of up


to 10kg and provided a reach of up to 1,100mm. It was shown as part of an automated production cell producing particulate foam model aircraft wheels with two subsequent overmoulding steps. The robot carried out all mould loading and unloading and packaging operations. ❙ www.arburg.com
