What is USA Volleyball High Performance?

The USA Volleyball High Performance (HP) Department is in charge of the U.S. Youth and Junior National Teams that com- pete for USA in sanctioned international competition.

In addition, HP Programs offer an ex- tensive tiered National Training Program for hundreds of aspiring Olympians, which creates the talent pipeline. HP works

to evaluate and identify the top volleyball players in the country through tryouts and then place them in National Training and Competition Programs to train with the top High Performance coaches the United States has to offer. Players train and are re- evaluated annually, moving up the pipeline in the quest to someday make a U.S. Youth or Junior National Team and eventually qualify for an Olympic team for the United States of America.

High Performance tryouts

Every athlete’s first step into the HP pipeline is to attend one of USA Vol- leyball’s High Performance Tryouts at a convenient location. Players are evaluated on all skills pertinent to the position they select to play and are evaluated by HP coaches against the National High Perfor- mance standard for that age group. Results for all the tryouts are posted in March for boys and at the end of

April for girls. Selected ath- letes have the opportunity to register for the summer program they earned. High Performance Programs are

unique and comprehensive, and the HP athlete pipeline is special to be involved in. Early registration for tryouts closes seven days prior to the tryout date. Players may register for tryouts online on the USAV website under the HP tab.

High Performance programs: Did you know?

HP Training is based directly on the systems and techniques used by our U.S. National Teams created by head coaches Karch Kiraly and John Speraw. HP Athletes are invited to programs based on their tryout evaluation. This means that comparably-skilled players are invited to each HP Program, providing the optimal environment for learning. HP Programs offer a comprehensive evaluation to athletes following the com- pletion of the program, allowing players to monitor their current level of play and identify the areas of necessary growth and training throughout the year. All HP Programs offer an 8:1 athlete to coach ratio and most are closer to 6:1. HP

coaches are evaluated, selected, and trained by USA Volleyball in a process similar to HP Athletes. HP Programs are certified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency’s (USADA) TrueS- port Program, a movement that seeks to ensure a positive youth sport experience by imparting lessons of three pillars: Clean Sport,

Sportsmanship and Peak Performance. HP Programs are perfect to include on

an HP Player’s athletic resume and college applications.
