What volleyball has given me
Involvement with team concepts forge a lifetime of friendships by Jaimee Rindy
ver the years, volleyball has given me a lot of amazing things that I would have never had without it. It has brought me opportunity, dreams, success and happiness.
O
It has taught me about teamwork and hard work. I’ve learned about trusting others and believing in yourself. Volley- ball has paved a path for me to learn and grow and find something I can really, truly express myself through. And that’s not even the best part. The greatest thing I have received from volleyball is the constantly growing group of people I have met along the way. Volleyball has given me friendships and relationships with people I otherwise would have never met. These people I meet – my teammates, my coaches, other parents, fellow volley-
ball lovers – all have shared stories with me, and each has had an extraordinary story to tell.

The friendships I’ve created through volleyball have made all the difference in the world for me. At one time, I felt excluded and like I really didn’t belong anywhere. But thanks to this sport and the people around it, I’ve found a place where I feel like I fit perfectly. The bonds I have with my teammates (from every season with every club/school) are bonds that can never be broken. These friendships have created memories on and off the court. Volleyball was the steppingstone to the close friendships I have today. And, really, I’m just getting started! Part of what I love about being on a team is that you get to learn about all these people and you can branch out from what is constantly around you. Moving to a
bigger club team in Denver, I was able to expand and learn of
people and things out of my own little town. I have met Olympic, state and national champions. See- ing other people’s success stories
makes me strive to work harder for my own.

Volleyball has also given me the chance to go out and see new places. Traveling across the country for club with my teammates has brought me closer to all of them, and it will continue to bring me
closer. I get to go to places I otherwise might never have gone.
Skills and teachings will come and go. There will come a point in my life when I can’t do all the skills just right or I might forget a little detail I was taught in the club season of my sophomore year. But these friendships and memories can never be forgotten. They have become my life. I am shaped by the people I spend the most time with, and they are all my volleyball family. Volleyball has given me more than just a participation award. It has given me the people I enjoy most.
