USA Volleyball honors the best of 2013

JAKE GIBB | USA Volleyball Male Beach Player of the Year Gibb has demon- strated he is one of the most versatile big men in beach volleyball history. He had fi ve total victories with new partner Casey Patterson in 2013. The 6-7 Utah native, who has been to two Olympics (2008, 2012), has now won domestic titles with four different players: Patterson, Sean Rosenthal, Stein Metzger and Adam Jewell.

Erickson helped the U.S. Women’s National Sitting Team earn a spot in the 2014 World Championship with a 19-point performance in the gold medal match of the ParaVolley Pan American Zonal Championships against Brazil. She was also named the most valuable player of the Moscow Cup in August after leading her team to a fi rst-ever win over China.

ALISHA GLASS | USA Volleyball Indoor Female Athlete of the Year The transition for Glass into the primary setting role in 2013 for the U.S. Women’s Na- tional Volleyball Team was as smooth as her delivery. She started 28 of 31 matches and helped a relatively in- experienced team to a .281 hitting effi ciency against rugged inter- national teams. “It’s quite an honor to be named USA Volleyball Indoor Athlete of the Year,” she said. “It’s an amazing organization and amazing group of girls.”

U.S. GIRLS’ YOUTH NATIONAL TEAM | USA Volleyball Indoor Team of the Year The U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team made history last August when it claimed the silver medal at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship in Thailand. It was the fi rst time a U.S. volleyball team of either gender earned a world champion- ship medal at the youth or junior level. The squad was coached by Jim Stone.
