APRIL ROSS | USA Volleyball Beach Female Athlete of the Year The season of transition for April Ross was a success. She played 12 tour- naments with her long-time partner Jen Kessy, earning the silver medal in Rome on the FIVB Tour and two wins on the AVP Tour. She also began her journey with Kerri Walsh Jennings, winning two FIVB Tour titles and an AVP event in Santa Barbara. Ross is set to play with Walsh Jennings through the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
JAMES STUCK | USA Volleyball Men’s Sitting Athlete of the Year Stuck directed a new 5-1 offense as the setter for the U.S. Men’s National Sit- ting Team, which finished second at the Pan Ameri- can Zonal Championships. “I just love playing,” he said. “After everything I’ve gone through, with losing my leg and all the injuries, just being able to still play sports is the highlight, period.”
MATT ANDERSON | USA Volleyball Indoor Male Athlete of the Year
Anderson, 26, has evolved into the leader and captain of the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team. The former Penn State star led the U.S. team in scoring (301; 4.36 points per set) and kills (261; 3.78 per set) in 2013 and played in all 39 sets in World League competi- tion. He was named the most valuable player of the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship in Canada after switching from outside hitter to opposite after only a six-week training block. Anderson was also first among all scorers at the Grand Champions Cup while playing opposite.
MAX HOLT | USA Volleyball Indoor Most Improved Male Player Holt, who was motivated by not making the 2012 Olympic roster, continues to evolve as a key player for the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team. The middle blocker was the team’s second lead- ing scorer in 2013 with 177 points (3.05 per set) and top blocker (.93 per set). “I learned a lot from not making the London team,” Holt said. “That drove me every day to become the best player I could possibly be.”
