This month, Irish Beauty takes a closer look at the history of nail brand Perfect Match; charting its early origins right through to their plans for future success.


The story behind Perfect Match first begins in 2006. Newton Luu, President and Founder of California-based LeChat Nail Care Products found that although many women were now opting for gel manicures they were more reluctant to have the same products applied to their toes. However, clients still wanted their hands and feet to match in colour which meant salons having to search and stock coordinating nail polishes.


It was this scenario that sparked an ‘eureka’ moment for Newton. His idea was to create a neatly packaged system that would not only offer a gel option but also for the very first time include a corresponding traditional


lacquer, thus saving beauty therapists valuable time and money.


In 2006, Newton launched Perfect Match. Initially the brand’s offerings contained traditional gel pots with a ‘perfect matching’ colour of Dare to Wear nail polish. The new concept proved to be a success and in 2009, the line was then further expanded with the introduction of gel polish formulas.

Olivia Murray achieved 1st place in Manicure, 1st place in Permanent Polish and ‘Irish Master Manicurist of the Year 2013’ at The Irish Nail Masters 2013. Whilst at the London Nail Masters 2013, Caroline Carrick took home 1st Place in Permanent Polish, 1st Place Manicure and was crowned ‘International Manicurist of the Year 2013’.

Newton’s innovative solution resulted in the popularity of Perfect Match quickly spreading worldwide. In 2010, Irish beauty professionals were able to access the full range when Asu Nail & Beauty Supplies based in Swords, Co. Dublin, became the exclusive Irish distributors of the brand.


After travelling to the US to meet and trial the products, Suzanne Alcock Thompson, Asu’s Education Director, personally hand-selected Perfect Match knowing that the brand would be an instant hit with nail technicians and beauty therapists back home.


Through her own experiences at both Asu and within her award-winning salon, Suzanne had encountered the very same problem that had led to the line’s initial creation. Although the number of clients requesting gel polish manicures was increasing, they still desired traditional lacquers for their pedicures. In Perfect Match, Suzanne had found the ‘perfect’ answer.


In addition, Suzanne also recognised the great potential the brand possessed in terms of retail opportunities as salons, Spas and mobile therapists would be able to increase their revenue by marketing and selling the Dare toWear polishes for clients to use in-between salon appointments and beyond.

Client focus


From the very outset, Le Chat’s emphasis has always been focussed on providing its customers with the upmost in nail care products. “Customer service is always the highest priority,” comments Suzanne. “The brand is constantly striving to think of the end user and the client who wears Perfect Match, from the quick curing times, long-lasting wear and easy removal to the free marketing material, education classes and competitive pricing.”


The company is also continuing its quest for innovation, introducing fresh concepts and choices to the range. “Perfect Match’s ethos is to be sophisticated, fun and trendy yet remain timeless and always in style,” says Suzanne. “They constantly add new colours and new ideas.”


She adds: “Gelos is the latest product to be launched – a polish thinner for gel polishes or builder gels. It can be used in any brand and it will not affect the curing process. It comes with a handy dropper to give even distribution, allowing you no wastage on the very end of bottles.”


Clients are literally spoilt for choice when it comes to gel polish colours. There are currently 145 shades on offer, all accompanied by their very own identical varnish, from classic tones right through to the season’s latest must-have hues.
