including integrated mould protection to avoid material degradation and real-time power deviation monitoring for leak detection. One of the challenges in running a mult-cavity hotrunner remains achieving simultaneous completion of fill – a pre-requisite for optimum part quality and consistency. Using the Control V module within the Fillcontrol system from Switzerland-based Priamus International, it is possible to detect the position of the melt front in each mould cavity and to adjust valve gate actuation or nozzle temperature to delay or advance the melt front as required. Priamus says this technology can be used with all thermoplastic hotrunner moulds as well as coldrunner systems for processing LSR (where it says feed system balance is even more critical in achieving good quality in the finished part). It can be applied both to conventional multi-cavity moulds as well as family moulds (where cavities have different volumes).
