“With New Year resolutions beginning, clients are looking for ways to start their year off right!”

“With New Year resolutions beginning, clients are looking for ways to start their year off right! Especially after just having indulged in celebrations full of eating and partying for the holidays, clients want to get back into shape. As a salon owner, you can help contribute to this process with body treatments to leave your clients recharged, rebalanced and re-energised to stick with their New Year exercise or diet routine.

“As with any business, you must market it right in order to get it going. Make sure to look for people in the right places this January, such as the gym! Promote your services as the perfect complement to new gym and eating habits for the New Year. Remind clients of the importance of skin care, and make proper suggestions for at-home care products to push some retail sales.”

“Your New Year’s resolution should be one of planning for profit!”

“With the New Year approaching it provides the

perfect opportunity to assess and plan for a year of success! So for the exciting year ahead, we have to plan for profit to kick-start the business with a quick check list…

• Pencil in time to re-visit your business plan and growth strategy and ask some direct questions such as what’s your USP? What’s your company vision and goal? What’s benefiting your business and what’s not?

• Ask yourself these three focusing questions – Where are you? Where do you want to be? How are you going to get there? Create the vision and set the goals.

• Look at your budgeting and costing plan for 2014. Set a clear budget / targets and track and measure the results.

“Market to people’s New Year’s Resolutions in early January…”

“January need not be a black hole in your appointment book if you plan for it now. Gift vouchers will be a huge source of income for many salons in December and you need to have a plan in place to upsell to your clients when they redeem their vouchers. Promotions such as ‘add a back massage to your facial for just €20’ work very well for those clients presenting vouchers.

“Consider also printing on your Christmas vouchers that you will give an extra 10% in value if redeemed in January. This gets footfall in and once you have a client in front of you take the opportunity to either upsell to a regular client who may like to try something new or make a fantastic impression with a new customer and turn her into a regular.

“Market to people’s New Year’s resolutions in early January to promote slimming and cellulite treatments. Many people will be suffering dull skin or breakouts after over-indulging at Christmas. By selling courses of treatments now will keep you busy well into February.

“Remember that many people in the hospitality trade do not have their Christmas parties until January. So target hotels and restaurants in your area in January to make staff aware of your make-up / tan / nail packages for their night out.”

• Get out the calendar and plan your 2014 marketing plan. This is vital for business growth and success for the year ahead. Events, promotions and building brand awareness aren’t easy and can take time but the return is invaluable.

• Are you utilising your technology fully? Computer software systems are amazing business tools designed for client retention, building the database and can perform a multitude of reports, tracking and marketing, saving you time and making you money.

• Re-visit customer service – this is something that we can continually assess and improve on. It can encourage clients in your door as opposed to your competitors and also increase your customer retention.

• Keep up to date on trends and industry changes – this keeps you current and relevant. Your clients will know that your business is the place to go for the latest must-haves and newest information.

“Your New Year’s resolution should be one of planning for profit! So here’s toasting to a successful and prosperous 2014!”
