Artist Gives Patterns Second Life

Mike Andrews first visited Clarksville Foundry, Clarksville, Tenn., in 1983, when he visited as a student of famed Tennessee artist Olen Bryant. In the ensuing three decades, Andrews has progressed from student to professional artist and teacher, but he has maintained a relationship with Clarksville president Charles Foust. Tat connection helped Andrews create his latest collection, “New Old

Stock.” A series of industrial assemblages, the pieces are comprised of antique wooden patterns that were once used for metal castings at the 165-year-old metalcasting facility but have been in storage for the past 30 years.

“Many of the pieces are works of art themselves and could stand alone as collectables,” Foust said. “To see them used in such an unusual art form is incredible.”
