Rivera, Smith Honored With Executive Awards


Executives from the metalcasting industry met in Napa


Sept. 22-24, where recipients of the William J. Grede and Keating Founders’ Freedom Award were announced at the 2013 AFS Foundry Executive Conference. • Te William J. Grede Award was presented to Manuel Rivera, Alfa Corporativo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Te award is given to an individual who demonstrates major contributions in the field of management, marketing or education that has resulted in expanding the effective use of metal castings.


• Te Keating Founders’ Freedom Award was presented to Geary Smith, G & W Electric Co., Bolingbrook, Ill. Te award is given to an individual demonstrating signifi- cant contribution to the metalcasting industry and active participation in the fields of government affairs, human resource management, safety and health, or education. More than 160 attended the conference including execu-


tives, their spouses and AFS representatives. Agenda high- lights included a presentation on healthcare reform updates for 2014 and best practices for communicating in a crisis.


5th Keith Millis Symposium Raises $40,000


Hosted by AFS and Ductile Iron Society (DIS) in Nash-


ville Oct. 15-17, the 5th Keith Millis Symposium brought together ductile iron experts and metalcasters to discuss evolutions in the metal and the processes surrounding the material. More than two hundred attended the event, which is held every five years. Proceeds from the symposium go toward the Keith Dwight Millis Scholarship provided by the Foundry Educational Foundation to students interested in a career in ductile iron.
