Historic N.Y. Foundry Preserve Opens to Public Te Scenic Hudson Land Trust
organization and its partners have opened the West Point Foundry prop- erty in Cold Spring, N.Y., as a public educational resource. Te 87-acre preserve offers interpretive features describing its roles in the Industrial Revolution and Civil War, as well as the land’s ecological renewal. Located on a forested site crossed by
a brook, West Point Foundry Preserve is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Te park contains the extensive remains of the 19th-century ironworks that manufactured cannons (Parrott guns) credited with helping to win the Civil War, some of the nation's first steam engines, pipes for New York City’s water system and machinery essential for the cotton and sugar industries.
