Xbox boss Whitten leaves Microsoft


14-year Microsoft veteran departs  Endemol makes changes to the top brass of its games department  Gameforge CEO steps down from business operations


MICROSOFT | Xbox chief product officer MARC WHITTEN has left the company.


Whitten leaves Microsoft to take up the same position at audio specialist Sonos. He spent 14 years with the firm and helped launch all three Xbox consoles. Following his departure, the Xbox team will now report to


executive VP TERRY MYSERSON. “I’m thankful for Marc’s leadership on Xbox and the incredible team he’s helped build. I look forward to working with Yusuf [Mehdi], Phil [Harrison] and the rest of the team to find a great replacement,” said Myserson. Whitten added: “I have had the pleasure over the last 14 years to work on the greatest product with the greatest team and for the greatest community.”

ENDEMOL | The UK production firm has named OWAIN WALBYOFF as MD of the company’s games department. The former commercial director is promoted to the role following the departure of JURIAN VAN DER MEER, who moved over to Endemol Netherlands as commercial director. In his new role, Walbyoff will oversee the licensing and monetisation of Endemol’s own and third-party products in the games market, which includes The Million Pound Drop, Deal or No Deal, Big Brother and The Ultimate Fighting Championship.


“Owain has great creative and commercial talent and his experience and expertise in the gaming sphere make him the ideal person to lead Endemol Games into the next phase of growth," said LUCAS CHURCH, chief executive officer for Endemol UK. Walbyoff added: “Endemol Games is deservedly recognised as a pioneer in the industry. The growth of the business has been achieved through world- class innovation, underpinned by access to Endemol’s hit global brands. I’m incredibly excited about leading the brilliant team here and working to deliver the next generation of online gaming.”

Van Husen has been a part of the company for over eight years. He served as CEO of subsidiary company Gameforge 4D and helped establish its business in client-based MMO titles. He boasts over 14 years of experience in the online games industry having held multiple Board director roles. “In 2005 I was convinced that we would be able to excite our browser game players for client games. Thanks to Carsten’s experience and commitment, this worked fantastically and I am very pleased that he is taking on the responsibility for the entire company,” said Rösner. Van Husen added: “I would like to thank Alex for the trust that he has placed in me and for handing over the hammer at the best possible moment.”
