St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Valley Forge, Pa. The orthodox church was distinguished as the Project of the Year winner in the Commercial Roofs Category by ATAS International Inc. GSM Roofi ng showed off its skills during the construction of the church. General contractor Horst Construction called on the roofi ng contractor to step in after another roofi ng contractor hired by the church, could not perform the scope of work. Over the span of two months, GSM Roofi ng repaired the roof and completed the new installation of metal roofi ng from ATAS. The church features 3,735 square feet of PC System in Coppertone. The standing seam panels clad a critical architectural feature of the church—a dome that brings the building to 53 feet in height. Eight columns brace the 32-foot-wide dome, which has 12 windows representing the 12 disciples. A bell tower also has a dome that is covered in PC System. North Coast Commercial Roofi ng Systems distributed the non- structural standing seam panels. The architect, CJK Design Group, selected metal
because it follows the traditional design of Greek Orthodox churches. According to the fi rm, the metal- lic fi nish adds an incredible dimension of luminosity, refl ecting God's light and defi ning the dormered windows, which project light outside the building at night. The metallic surface is also a stunning con- trast to the lush green landscaping. The single-story, 7,385-square-foot building seats 420, and has a mez- zanine for overfl ow seating and storage.
