Non-critical natural frequency Apart from the stability,

the vibration

characteristics of the vehicle were care- fully calculated. The aim was to achieve a higher natural frequency outside the typical excitation spectrum. For this, modal analysis of the chassis frame was carried out (image 3).

The X-Train is based on the Rickshaw principle and is equipped with a king pin steering: Single axis Rickshaws are coupled to the front vehicle with two axes via spherical bearings. The seats of the X-Train are positioned in a V-shape on a single level. This keeps the centre- of-gravity low and increases the orderly arrangement for the riders. The king pin steering is combined with a side wheel suspension. This increases the ride com- fort and reduces the load on the compo- nents (The large load wheels (D=360mm)

The frame is designed in a module man- ner. This has the advantage that the prototype with the LSM drive can be used for further versions. Because of the new conservative standards, milled assemblies are preferred, like the bogie that consists of machined and screwed components that are partly constructed from high quality tempered steel. The track width is 1300 mm and the track tube diameter is 220 mm. This provides a good support for the train and allows sufficient leeway for future versions. Due to the 3D-construction and the high manufacturing quality an installa- tion friendly vehicle was produced.

Maiden voyage in China

The maiden voyage of the new X-Train will take place in 2014 in a new amuse- ment park in Ningbo, China. This coaster will be 500 m long, 30 m in height and have a speed of up to 85 KM/h. The layout is similar to the LSM-X-Car- Coaster in Bayern Park (“Freischütz”) and includes three inversions: Top Hat, Looping and Heart Roll. Special fea- tures are the principle “Flying Launch” which means that no station brakes are necessary and there is the possibility to drive through twice without stopping. Using modern Supercaps some of the braking energy can be recovered and be used for the next start.
