X-Train

Maurer Rides extends its range of products. X-Train is the name of the new development from Munich: X-Train combines the high passenger capacity of a train with the technical achievements of the X-Car.

modular in design and dimensioned for a large amount of ride elements according to the “new” standards. This initiates a new roller coaster era at Maurer.

Up to 24 people can ride the X-Train. The front vehicle can be coupled with up to five rickshaws. Therefore – in compari- son to single vehicles – a higher capacity can be realised with a reduced number of block zones.

Agile high performer

The X-Train is an extremely agile train. It drives through the track layout with inver- sions at a height of 60 m, up to a maxi- mum speed of 130 km / h and accelera-

For all of these ride elements the acceler- ation exerted on the train was calculated: in a 1 to 2 m grid using Maurer’s own sim- ulation tool X-Trac (image 1/1.). For the movement through a single short track

tions from -1.2 to +5 g. Its design allows a minimum radius of 7 m both vertically and horizontally. Riders have to be at least 130 cm tall for inverted rides and 120 cm for rides without inversion.

Standard compliant towards the future

The development and design of the X-Train is based on the “new” EN Stand- ard 13814/Eurocode 3 and the Chinese GB 8408. To make sure that the new train is compliant to all future requirements, 16 load conditions were defined for the design based on typical ride elements and also complete track layouts .

layout (Ningbo), 460 train positions were determined with the corresponding accel- erations. Based on this information the load for each component was determined (image 1/2). To do this a spatial beam model was simulated taking into consid- eration the impact coefficients. Using of all this information for the FEM analysis, the stress amplitude for each component was determined (image 1/3 and image 2).

Finally the endurance strength accord- ing to FKM guidelines or according to Eurocode 3 was proven depending on the part effort

stress method according to DIN 15018 is necessary to determine the mini- mum and maximum stress on the com- ponents, which is now required for the proof according to the maximum stress range method.
