www.audiomedia.com Apple Unveils new Mac Pro
AT APPLE’S recent press event, the company unveiled a number of new and updated products including the iPad Air, iPad mini with retina display, and its latest version of OS X, Mavericks. But for the pro-audio community, the biggest announcement by far was the reveal of details surrounding the (until now) mysterious new Mac Pro. Apple seems to clearly be targeting the audio and recording industry with its latest flagship desktop – one of the first people to be given a unit to test was music producer Stuart Price (Lady
Gaga, Madonna, The Killers). The all-new Mac Pro is designed
around a unified thermal core that allows the system to share thermal capacity across all the processors. An innovative fan draws in air efficiently and makes the new Mac Pro as quiet as a Mac mini. It features 4-core, 6-core, 8-core or
12-core Intel Xeon processors running at turbo boost speeds up to 3.9GHz; six Thunderbolt 2 ports, each with up to 20Gbps of bandwidth per device; and PCIe-based flash storage that
delivers sequential read speeds up to 1.2Gbps and is up to 10 times faster than conventional desktop hard drives. ECC DDR3 running at 1,866MHz, with a four-channel memory controller gives the new Mac Pro up to 60Gbps of memory bandwidth, twice that of the previous generation Mac Pro; it ships with the new OS X Mavericks. The Mac Pro is scheduled to ship in December through Apple’s online store with a base price of £2,499 inc VAT.

TC Upgrades System 6000 MKII with Application-specific Versions
TC ELECTRONIC has reinforced its System 6000 MKII by tailoring it for four specific applications: Music, Film, Mastering, and Broadcast. Music 6000 comes fully loaded with both the Multichannel and Stereo Reverb licences as well as the Stereo Mastering licence, which holds the legendary MD3 and MD4 multiband compressors as well as Brickwall Limiter 2. Also included with this licence is Matrix 88, a digital eight-channel summing mixer that features upsampled limiting, 48-bit summing, accurate delays, and bit transparency. On top of this, TC also added its LM6 Loudness Radar Meter. Film 6000 holds the Multichannel and
Stereo Reverb licences plus a brand new eight-channel reverb, Rev8. Each frame runs Rev8 twice, thereby comprising the industry’s first true 16-channel reverb, making it suited to high channel cinema formats such as Dolby Atmos and Auro. Mastering 6000 includes Multichannel and
Stereo Mastering licences, comprised of MDX 5.1, MD 5.1, EQ 5.1, Toolbox 5.1, MD4, MD3, Brickwall Limiter 2 and Matrix
Tascam Releases the DA-3000
AIMED AT recording studios, post- production suites, and broadcasters, Tascam’s DA-3000’s dual-mono Burr Brown PCM4202 Analogue to Digital (AD) converter and Burr Brown PCM1795 Digital to Analogue (DA) converter enables very high sampling rates of up to 192kHz (PCM) and 5.6MHz (DSD). Tascam has also paid attention to the analogue stages with the latest low-noise,
high-accuracy resistors, an audio-grade transformer, and high-quality op-amp. For multitrack duties, a cascade connection system has been incorporated featuring high-precision clock synchronisation for four units, giving up to eight channels of simultaneous recording and playback operation.

EVE Audio Four-way Monitors now Shipping
THE SC4XX four-way active monitor series is now available from Berlin-based studio monitor specialist EVE Audio. SC4xx models are the largest in its SC range. The SC4xx series features two models: the SC407, a 6.5in powered studio monitor, and the SC408, an 8in powered studio monitor. Both models are equipped with a pair of SilverCone woofers and a midrange unit with fibreglass-coated diaphragm in honeycomb structure. SC4xx series use EVE Audio’s AMT (Air Motion
Transformer) technology with a bigger magnet system to deliver transparency and treble with virtually no distortion, even at high output levels. Each driver is provided with its own PWM amplifier, with the SC407 boasting a response of 35Hz to 21kHz and a peak SPL of 116dB, while the SC408 features a response of 32Hz to 21kHz and a peak SPL of 118dB. All of the frequency response parameters are controlled
by DSP electronics supported with an A/D converter from Burr-Brown. As the PWM-amplifiers are directly connected to the DSP section, no additional conversion is necessary. The grey plate in the middle of the monitors housing the midrange unit and AMT tweeter can be rotated for vertical as well as horizontal installations. The SC4xx series four-way active monitor speakers are available in the UK now.
