UK INVASION Continuing its recent run of product releases, Prism Sound expanded its family of audio interfaces with the launch of Titan. This multichannel device offers quality analogue and digital I/O for Mac or Windows PC at sample rates up to 192kHz via a simple USB interface. In addition, Titan is the first Prism Sound device to feature the new MDIO interface expansion slot. This miniature expansion slot can be used to expand Titan’s connectivity, for example by adding a direct connection to Pro Tools HDX systems. CEDAR Audio’s Cambridge V9 made its US debut at the convention. The latest revision to the audio restoration and speech enhancement system now features the IML extension, which extends the Batch Processing system and allows the processing applied to each audio file to be specified by a software file called a batch token. This contains information such as the location of the source audio and its file name. CEDAR Cambridge V9 also allows users to localise much of the system’s user- interface, including its tooltips. Translation is straightforward, requiring the entry of the new language terms alongside the English ones in a text file. Finally, Track Loudness View and Track
Loudness ensure audio conforms to loudness standards.
INDUSTRY MOVERS Harman Professional announced it had bolstered its audio portfolio with the acquisition of Duran Audio. The deal provides Harman with access to electro- acoustic and software-based directivity control technologies including the AXYS Intellivox line of ‘steerable’ loudspeaker columns. The AXYS products and core technologies will become an integrated part of the Harman Professional audio product line. Sonnox’s Nathan Eames summed up the positive
atmosphere at the show, stating: “Busiest AES in a long time. Thank you New York! Great to meet everyone who dropped by the Sonnox booth – it’s always a pleasure to hear from our happy customers. “The next one is in LA. It will be bigger.
I’ve heard there are a couple of product launches already planned for that one.” DPA president Eric Mayer was similarly enthusiastic: “This AES in NY was the best AES Convention in many years. The show floor traffic seemed up, our booth attendees were more ‘qualified’ and spirits seemed high. I’m not sure what changes were made, but whatever they were, they were needed and they worked.” The AES returns to Europe for the 136th
Convention in Berlin on 26-29 April.
