STRONGROOM, PART of the AIR Entertainment Group, has come together with producer Danton Supple and management company 140dB to create a new studio within the Shoreditch complex. It is designed to provide simple, high-end recording and mixing facilities at an affordable rate. Located in Strongroom 4, the studio has

been rewired by Langdale Technical Consulting’s Bill Ward and is centred on an ex-BBC Calrec Q-Series analogue console. The desk, and a range of outboard equipment including Summit, Manley, Neve, Chandler, API, and more, has been integrated with a

characterful and adaptable front-end; the room can be used in an ‘in-the-box’ configuration, with the option of analogue summing and 24 channels of dynamics/EQ. An adjoining spacious live area is equipped with a second Pro Tools workstation, providing additional editing capability, if required. The room has already been put to use on Radiohead drummer Philip Selway’s second solo album for Bella Union, with an official launch event planned for November. “I wanted to create a working environment with the character and personality of a producer-run studio, but make it easy and enjoyable for other people to use too,” said Supple. “We’ve built it in such a way that the 140dB guys will feel instantly at home here, as will Strongroom’s clients. I trained as an assistant at Strongroom in the late ’80s and it’s great to be back, the place has a fantastic vibe.” Weekend days in the studio can be booked for £250 + VAT throughout November and December. www.strongroom.com

DPA Restructures Management Team

DPA MICROPHONES has restructured its management team. The company’s CEO Christian Poulsen says the development of new products scheduled for release in 2014 gave DPA the impetus to examine its internal structure and make changes that play to individual managers’ personal strengths.

One of the key changes is the appointment of product specialist Mikkel Nymand to the newly created position of product manager. DPA has also made a number of changes to its sales department. Bo Brinck has been appointed to the position of global

sales support manager, another new post. Responsibility for sales within the Nordic countries now falls to Kim Nedertorp, who has been appointed area manager for the entire region. DPA has also appointed Nils Vinding as area manager for the UK, Switzerland, and Central and South America. DPA’s sales team in the

Far East has received a boost with the appointment of Francis Lai to the position of sales manager at DPA Microphones APAC in Hong Kong. Finally, Ole Moesmann has been named R&D manager. www.dpamicrophones.com
