“Doing a Kris Kringle with staff can be a light hearted way for them to consider one another during such a hectic time.”
“Step one has to be getting into that festive spirit yourself – believing is infectious. Nobody loves a manicure from a bah humbug! “Throw a humorous spin on your specials; people are oblivious to the cascade of promotions available to them now! An example could be ‘12 days of Christmas’ promotions to include: "The first day of Christmas my true love brought to me ...a stunning
new 3 week mani; The second day of Christmas my true love gave to me…a lasered
hair free b-kini..!" “The décor does not have to be tacky, nor must you invest in top of the range decorations or dominate the entire salon with baubles and tinsel, but the salon must be recognisably making an attempt to be cheerful and inviting to entice people in. Consider it an impulse buy; the more cheerful your clients are the more they're inclined to buy / rebook. “Consider having the team’s commission slightly higher just for this one month so they are more motivated than ever; including link selling, upgrading packages, voucher sales etc. “Display your Christmas cards from clients – it highlights the rapport and gratitude you've been shown all year. “Have your own staff Christmas party towards the end of November to encourage the staff to be ‘in the zone’ – team building is essential. Often in our industry we are so busy pampering others we leave our cheer behind. “Doing a Kris Kringle / Secret Santa with staff can be a light hearted way for them to consider one another during such a hectic time. Team work festivity! Placing a low budget of €5 and ensuring it’s a non-beauty related gift is always fun! “Discuss Christmas working hours well in advance so everybody is aware of the commitment needed. Roster in advance – sick days are inevitable during Christmas time.”

“Don’t forget to reward your staff – a happy staff is a hard working staff!”
“The holidays can be a busy and exciting time for your salon business. Clients will be coming in for pre-holiday party prep and buying holiday gifts for their loved ones, but in order tomake their experience at your business a good one, your staff needs to get in the holiday spirit.
“I recommend starting off the season with a company-widemeeting. Go over the year before and work out the pros and cons you experienced during the holiday season. Were you understaffed? Did you run out of inventory? These are the issues you need to address tomake sure that you are prepared for the coming year. This way, you can take some of the stress off of your employees when the busy season is in full swing.
“And don’t forget to reward your staff! Before the season is over, carve out some time for a company party. A happy staff is a hard working staff. Happy holidays!”

“Offer complimentary mini mince pies and a small glass of mulled wine for guests throughout the week prior to Christmas.”
“In the run up to the festive season a Christmas plan should be put in place to ensure all is in place well in time for the Christmas rush. This should include the salon’s Christmas stock order, a Christmas Shopping Event and invites, Christmas cards sent out to regular clients and plenty of Christmas themed promotions to create excitement around the salon.
“Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree in the Spa or salon will help to encourage staff to push Christmas gift ideas, while keeping Christmas shopping present in the mind of consumers.
“Staff could organise a 'Secret Santa' gift collection for all staff to give and receive gifts anonymously for the team. A staff Christmas party on a week night prior to Christmas, if possible, would help to get staff into the Christmas spirit. Staff could also wear sparkle make-up or tasteful tinsel on Christmas Eve if on shift.
“To help get clients in the mood for Christmas I would suggest having complimentary mini mince pies and a small glass of mulled wine for guests on arrival throughout the week prior to Christmas.
“Another idea would be to have a 'Christmas Sparkle' drop-in session. Spas and salons could offer half price offers or two for one on treatment selection of self-tan, waxing, eyelash extensions, gel nails etc.
“Men particularly need some encouragement when it comes to getting into the festive spirit, so one way to help them along would be to hold a Gentleman’s 'Present Tense’ shopping event incorporating a ‘Men only’ gift ideas session, pre-packed and easy to purchase for that special person in their lives! Also bounce back discounts on offer for treatments booked in December and redeemed in January to ensure repeat business to beat the post- season slump.”
