RIDES FOR VICTIMS OF SANDY HOOK TRAGEDY

LINDEN POLICE DEPARTMENT MOTOR UNIT SUBMITTED BY SGT. MICHAEL BABULSKI

On May 5, 2013 the Linden Police Department Motor Unit detail to Shelton, CT included four Motor Officers; Sgt. Michael Babulski, Investigator Peter Hammer, Investigator Mark Kahana and Officer Ian Conk. These four Officers used LPD motorcycles and volunteered their time to participate in a benefit ride for the victims of the school shooting tragedy at the Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT. The Linden Police Department Motor Unit was established in

2005 through a donation that was received from a Linden resident who had passed away. In March 2013, the Linden Police Depart- ment purchased two 2013 Harley-Davidson®

Electra-Glide® Police

motorcycles with grant funding. The bikes were ordered ready for the road without any cost to the City of Linden.

“THIS WAS THE MOST EMOTIONAL EVENT I HAVE EVER TAKEN PART IN. I AM GRATEFUL TO THE LINDEN POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR SENDING ME TO THIS EVENT.” Sgt. Michael Babulski

The officers rode to Shelton, CT, on Saturday May 4. Upon

their arrival they were greeted by the residents of Newtown and the surrounding areas. The officers met with involved families and took pictures with anyone who wished, including volunteer fire departments and sponsors of the event. Sgt. Michael Babulski stated, “This was the most emotional

event I have ever taken part in. I am grateful to the Linden Police Department for sending me to this event. I am also honored to be invited to take part in such a special event.” I encourage everyone to visit the LPD and Green Ribbon Ride’s

facebook pages at: www.facebook.com/LindenPoliceDepartment and www.facebook.com/SandyHookFireGreenRibbonRide to see additional photographs of the event. The LPD Motor Unit will also be sending four officers to par-

ticipate in the largest charity ride on the East Coast, America’s 911 Foundation in August. The ride travels from Shanksville, PA to the Pentagon then to Ground Zero. “I am extremely happy that we were able to purchase these

motors at no cost to the City of Linden. I am even more proud to send my Officers to participate in such a special event as the Green Ribbon Ride,” said Chief James Schulhafer.
