Fort Lauderdale, FL – Uncle Al Nelson of the Fort Lauderdale Police Motor Unit sometime in the 1930s. Originally from Brockton, MA, two brothers went to Florida during the Depression to make a new start. Al Nelson joined the Fort Lauderdale Police and Harry Nelson, the older brother, became a detective in Palm Beach. Submitted by Dwight Nevins.


Leavenworth, KS – Police offi cer William J. Wise, Leavenworth, Kansas Police Department. He was 34 years old at the time of this photo in 1947. The average monthly salary for a patrolman was $150.11. Submitted by son Gary P. Wise.
