he Orlando Police Motorcycle Unit was established in 1921 for traffi c enforcement and accident inves- tigations. The unit currently has 35 2013 Harley-Davidson® Road King®


Police motorcycles. As part


of the department’s Community Oriented Policing, the primary enforcement emphasis is on neighborhood traffi c complaints. Offi cers assigned to the unit are also responsible for traffi c control at the more than 400 special events occurring in the city each year. This unit along with the Orange County


Sheriff’s Department’s Motor Unit work together as a team to provide escort services for visiting dignitaries such as the President and Vice President of the United States. They also provide escorts for the visiting college foot- ball teams participating in the Russell Athletic Bowl and Capital One Bowl during bowl weeks.


TRAFFIC HOMICIDE UNIT The Traffi c Homicide Unit is a part of the Traffi c Enforcement Section. Comprised of one sergeant and four detectives, these offi cers investigate all fatal crashes as well as hit-and -run crashes that occur within the city limits of Orlando. All of the members of this unit are trained in accident reconstruction and use state-of-the-art crash scene mapping technology and CAD drawing systems. These officers are also motorcycle offi cers and are required to assist in all special events and dignitary escorts.
