For those who prefer not to attempt the climb, there is a cable car service available to take you to the top of the hill.
Firecrackers are lit by devotees to usher in luck.
Hatyai Municipal Park is 6km from Hatyai City. All the holy statues are within walking distance of each other and for those who find it hard to climb, there is a cable car that takes you to the top.
There is also a gigantic
representation of Erawan with his 3 heads and 6 tusks on a single body. Erawan is the official steed of Indra, the Hindu god of war, weather and thunderstorms. His weapon is the thunderbolt. Erawan is associated with the 4-Faced Brahma who is totally clad in gold. Indra is also golden and some view Indra as a manifestation of Brahma the Creator, one of the tripartite of gods with Vishnu the Preserver and Shiva the Destroyer. Near the Brahma shrine is a tall cage where firecrackers are lit to
produce the familiar fire-cracking noise heard during Chinese New Year. Devotees believe then that lighting firecrackers help usher in good fortune. Nearby is a celebrated staircase shaped as a dragon with mouth wide open. Te dragon’s mouth is cavernous and it acts as a tunnel for visitors to walk up and down the hill! Its tongue is artfully crafted onto the steps and the dramatic structure can be nerve- wrecking for the faint hearted and superstitious.
