BFS 33M True Colour Sensor
he BFS 33M colour sensor from Balluff is a true- colour sensor of the highest class. No matter what kind of objects you show the sensor, it can discriminate them all with unerring accuracy. Even the slightest shades, smallest grey level differences or minimal changes to the surface properties are detected without effort. It precisely detects an object and switches the corresponding output with lightning speed. Up to seven objects can be signalled on the switching outputs in this way. In addition the L*a*b colour values can also be directly output on a serial interface. Special compensation and individualized calibration means the sensor achieves extremely high accuracy over a long period. The BFS 33M is more than a simple colour sensor. As a True Colour sensor it precisely detects every colour in the technical colour space, making it ideal for use in a variety of demanding applications including robotics, automated assembly, in the packaging industry or wood processing industry. The rugged aluminium sensor housing is not only attractive and modern, but also meets the special needs of machine and systems builders. The sensor is always used in conjunction with a fibre optic cable, so that applications under especially harsh conditions and tight mounting spaces can be handled.

t the EMO 2013 exhibition, Raytek (hall 6, stand C65) will showcase temperature measurement solutions for the metal working industry. The company which markets the renowned Raytek and Ircon brands has been one of the leading providers of non-contact temperature measurement with infrared (IR) sensors for over 50 years. This year’s trade show highlight is the new generation of Ircon ScanIR3 infrared linescanners. Additionally, Raytek presents its large program of IR pyrometers for various applications throughout the steel making process – from coke ovens and blast furnaces to annealing mills and coating mills – as well as temperature measurement solutions for foundries, forging mills, and other industrial heat treating facilities. Accurate real-time temperature data supports, among other things, the optimization of oven and roller parameters and the efficient use of coolants, resulting in failure-free operation, consistent product quality, high productivity, and lower energy costs. Interfaces for all common Ethernet and fieldbus systems enable connection to the control level. High-performance accessories such as cooling and air purge enclosures ensure precise measurements even under very harsh environmental conditions.

High Speed bar code reading! T
he Matrix 300™ is an ultra-compact image based bar code reader designed for outstanding performance on high speed 1D/2D and Direct Part Marking (DPM) applications. Combining a high resolution sensor with ultra-fast image acquisition the optical system incorporates a liquid lens module for the electronic control of the focus. As a result the reader offers automatic focus adjustment without internal moving parts. The integrated illuminator covers the entire front surface of the reader.
This innovative design enables bright and
uniform illumination of the bar code. The lighting design uses both bright field and dark field patterns which provide perfect illumination on normal, etched, highly reflective or textured surfaces. With exceptionally small physical dimensions and a rotating connector, the Matrix 300™ can be easily integrated into the tightest of spaces.

Hyundai PowerTech is the primary producer of transmissions for all Hyundai and Kia car models in Korea. Historically the manufac- turer used barcode readers from multiple companies in each of their factories, leading to maintenance issues, efficiency reductions and inconsistent read rates. Hyundai Power Tech was also challenged with improving the Direct Park Mark (DPM) 2D barcode read rate in strict reading conditions on the newly expanded RWD eight speed automatic trans- mission line.
Hyundai chose the DataMan barcode reader from Cognex due to its high stability and 100% read rates. Subsequently, Hyundai PowerTech was so satisfied with the performance of the DataMan readers in the Seosan, Korea plant, they can also be

Following the deployment of the DataMan barcode reader, Hyundai PowerTech achieved faster production and process management. A new Manufacturing Execution System (MES) was also deployed to support more seamless communication in factories along with faster data collection processes. Hyundai PowerTech uses MES provided data to track down prod- uct history and control production manage- ment and defect management in an integrated manner. These goals could not have been achieved without the reads of the DataMan barcode reader.
The DataMan barcode reader supports Ethernet and it can be directly integrated with a network through a hub without dis- tance constraints. DataMan can communi- cate with MES without a PC just like a network device. Hyundai PowerTech was able to meet the strict read conditions of an RWD eight speed automatic transmission line with the DataMan barcode reader. As eight speed transmission parts become smaller and more complicated, the laser marked 2D DPM Data Matrix code needs to be very small (5x5mm). Additionally, because Hyundai PowerTech manufactures differ-
ent transmission models, related parts vary in shape and 2D mark locations are incon- sistent. Hyundai PowerTech has solved these problems with a high resolution In- Sight barcode model, a DataMan barcode reader and VisionPro IDMax tool libraries. With high resolution (two megapixels) and powerful algorithms, the In-Sight reader can consistently decode very small 2D codes despite their condition, viewing angle, surface material or code location on the transmission parts. Additionally, the In-Sight reader has become so reliable, it is now also used to read barcodes on housing components and other transmission types within the plant. Cognex

The Power over Ethernet (POE) option is another
unique cost effective feature meaning that power and communication can be provided to the reader using a standard single Ethernet connection.
