PACEline range expanded
H
BM has expanded the capabilities of its PACEline range of piezoelectric transducers with a series of charge cables up to 7 metres long. The cables are designed to facilitate the integration of HBM’s PACEline products into existing systems. Piezoelectric transducers are used in applications when there is limited space for measuring equipment or when measurement tasks involve extremely small forces and high dynamics. HBM’s new charge cables combine easily with an extensive array of accessories, including mounting aids, summators and cable couplings, for its PACEline piezoelectric products. This means that the entire measuring chain for nearly all applications can now be supplied. All of the accessories conform to HBM’s high quality standards while the price/performance ratio remains extremely attractive to save users time and money. HBM Test & Measurement has established itself as a reliable partner for industrial applications with its PACEline piezoelectric products while demand for HBM solutions continues to grow steadily.

Kistler KiTorq torque sensor has upgraded communication
T
he Kistler KiTorq (
http://tinyurl.com/kistler-4434) torque sensor system is now available with Profibus, Profinet CANopen, Ethercat and EthernetIP interfaces in addition to the analog/frequency, USB and RS-232 interfaces. The new stator is fully compatible with all KiTorq type 4550A rotors. The new communication options allow the KiTorq system to be integrated directly into the user’s test environment through the fieldbus interfaces. This saves time during installation and eliminates the cost of additional equipment to convert measured data making the new KiTorq stator exceptionally cost effective for test stand design, installation and operation in applications for electric motor, internal combustion engine, transmissions, pump and compressor testing. The new stator can be used with any KiTorq rotor of the same speed rating and will automatically recognise the rotor measuring range. With rotors available with seven measuring ranges from 100 to 5,000 Nm, hardware investment is minimised as one stator may be used with rotors of differing ranges for different applications.

New medium voltage drives improve life cycle costs at Pumping Station
voltage AC drive has been commissioned at Yorkshire Water’s Blackburn Meadows Wastewater Treatment Works in Sheffield. Six ACS 2000 drives from ABB have replaced a DC drive system used to control a set of pumps, with motors rated at 2 x 645 kW, 2 x 505 kW and 2 x 300 kW. The multi- pump arrangement is used to transfer wastewater 25 metres below ground to the head of the treatment works. Medium voltage drives were selected instead of low voltage drives due to the long cable lengths and overall project costs including the electrical distribution system, variable-speed drives and motors. The existing DC drive system used dry-type cast-resin indoor transformers feeding DC drives controlling the DC motors.
T
While Yorkshire Water Services’ specification for the new system would permit indoor transformers, they would need to be integrated into the new variable-speed drives and would, therefore, not be free-standing. The ACS 2000 was selected as it can be used without an input isolation transformer, thereby allowing a direct connection to the 6.6 kV line supply (direct-to-line). The active front end (AFE) enables the transformerless operation with reduced harmonic loadings.
Installation is simplified by the contactless, digital telemetry that eliminates the need for an antenna ring whilst maintaining the excellent signal bandwidth of 10 kHz and accuracy of better than 0.05% of range. A speed measurement of 60 pulses per revolution is integrated in the standard system.

The new CLN LED workplace light fitting
t the SPS/IPC/Drives 2012, PATLITE presented the new CLN workplace light fitting for the first time. The ultra-bright LED light offers various fitting possibilities and can also be used without any problems in extreme working environments. This makes the light fitting, measuring just 22 mm in width, a real little power pack. The seven LEDs of the workplace light fitting have a life span of 60,000 hours and radiate the light with 500lm at a wide angle of 40°. At the same time, the new LED light is resistant to water, oil and chemicals and conforms to protection categories IP 66G, IP 67G and IP 69K. The square casing with a lateral length of 85 mm is made of robust and impact-resistant aluminium. It is designed so that oil and water quickly drain completely away. The ultra-bright LEDs are protected by impact-resistant toughened glass. PATLITE offers the new workplace light fitting in two different models: the 180°- folding CLN-T (Tilt) model and the CLN-PT (Pan-Tilt) model, which also swivels by 120°. In both cases, the customer has the choice between the lighting shades of “daylight” and “warm-white”. Both lamp designs offer countless attachment options, making them suitable for a huge range of uses.
