Although relays are often viewed as rather basic elements in indus- trial applications, their role is cru- cial to the trouble-free running of a plant and the technology behind them is far from simple. Within Omron’s portfolio there is an array of electro- mechanical, solid state and high power relays. Recently the Omron G2RV range of 6mm plug-in industrial relays has been extended to include
relays specifically designed to reliably switch sensitive loads like input signals. Well suited for interfacing input applications, including the provision of galvanic separa- tion between signalling devices and PLC inputs, the segregation of AC and DC circuits, and the separation of circuits operating at different voltage levels, the new light load input relays in the G2RV range feature gold
plated contacts rated 50mA at up to 30V AC or 36V DC. The relays feature Omron’s three-click connection system allowing for fast and easy wiring while guaranteeing fault-free connections. Rittal’s new range of modular support arm systems make it easy to turn, lift and swivel control panels with precision. Giving the operator a clear overview and the best possible control, the sup- port arm systems provide an ergonomic interface between machines, control devices and operators. Rittal’s new modular support arm system offers the user con- sistency in both function and installation, reducing time required for assembly, alignment and maintenance, and project planning. Having a standardised design and a modular structure the new support arm system offers a solution for every requirement and can be implemented for loads in the range of 60, 120 and 180kg (based on a jib length of one metre). Rittal’s new modular support arm system includes a number of
features. For instance, each system, comprising a support sec- tion, intermediate hinge and angle pieces, can be mounted either on top of the machine or on a side panel. To ensure smooth, straightforward installation, wall and base mounting brackets are available in two different sizes, as are flexible top and wall mount- ed joints with horizontal outlets.
Support sections are constructed from an oval shaped alumini- um section. Rittal’s new section design provides high stability against the bending and torsional loads typical of the application. Rittal

World’s first composite linear modules
The linear modules of SCHUNK’s new LCx series are the world’s first standardised motor axes made of reinforced carbon composite (RCC). With a weight approximately 58% lighter than com- parable aluminium modules, they can be accelerated and moved in a fast and energy efficient fashion. The reinforced carbon composite offers a number of other benefits. For example, the high elasticity modulus of RCC gives the axes superior bending and torsional stiff- ness. Their internal damping reduces vibration and ensures dynamic stiffness. Since the thermal expansion of the material is minimal, the axes ensure high preci- sion even when they heat up during operation. Light weight modules in the LCx series use proven high speed LDx modules from SCHUNK. They owe their high dynamics and repeat accu- racy to a servo-electric linear motor drive. Without mechani- cal transmission elements, the driving force is transmitted by high precision drive elements directly to the slide. Precision cut steel guide rails further increase accuracy. As standard the LCx series is equipped with absolute value transducers to provide repeat accuracy of 0.01mm per axis. Since the mod-

ules have almost no parts that wear, both the mainte- nance costs and the number of unplanned down- times drop to almost zero. In addition, the axes do not require end or reference sensors, reducing the invest- ment costs, programming costs and number of cables in the cable set.
The servo motors achieve such high rated forces that smaller sizes usually suffice or, in vertical applications, greater masses can be moved. Since the motor, measuring system and linear guidance are integrated directly into the axis profile or slide, the modules are extremely compact and require little space.
The standardised carbon axes come in two ver- sions. One version is the LCN version with a simple X pro- file whereby the axis reaches a rated force of 200N and a maximum driving force of 500N. The other is the LCM module, which is designed
for moderate loads and is equipped with a wide double X profile. This achieves a rated force of 400N and a maximum driving force of 1,000N. SCHUNK

Cognex Corporation has announced that it has released two new products - the Advantage 100 vision system and the AE2 Advantage engine - designed for integration into original equipment manufac- turer (OEM) devices and equip- ment. OEM equipment designers can now take full advantage of powerful Cognex vision and code reading technology in even the most space constrained and cost sensitive applications such as those in the clinical diagnos- tic, printing, kiosk or medical device industries.
The Advantage 100 vision system is a compact (23mm x 44mm x 54mm), enclosed vision system with customisable optics, lighting and Ethernet communi- cations suitable for integration into large automated clinical diagnostic systems.
The AE2 Advantage vision engine provides an even smaller (14.5mm x 29.1mm x 20.5mm) form factor designed for tight inte- gration deep inside the enclosure of OEM devices manufactured in high volumes such as medical instruments and printers. Cognex
