Sustainability Hub targets three political parties

MARTIN Fahey, Mitsubishi Electric’s sustainable solutions manager, has just completed a tour of the three major political party conferences as part of the Sustainability Hub initiative, which takes the sustainable message to the nation’s policy makers.

The theme of this year’s conference receptions was ‘Delivering the green economy; is there a political will?’ with Sustainability Hub members looking to engage with key political stakeholders on sustainable economic development and climate change.

Mr Fahey has travelled the length and breadth of the country to meet Liberal Democrats in Glasgow, the Labour Party in Brighton and the Conservative Party in Manchester, and has generally found a receptive ear at all three events, with senior members of every party in attendance.

“All of the major parties realise that Government has an important role to play in helping us tackle climate change,” explained Mr Fahey. “We decided to take part in the Sustainability Hub because we want to show that business is ready to join forces with whoever is in Downing Street to maximise energy efficiency in the country.”

promote action on sustainable growth, and the Conference Party reception events were sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric.

“As a UK manufacturer, we know we can play an important role in developing innovative, low carbon products that can reduce energy consumption in the built environment,” commented Mr Fahey. “We also know that the construction industry has the skills necessary to increase the amount of renewable energy in use in our homes and businesses and firmly believe that heat pumps can make an important contribution in reducing emissions levels and fuel bills, building by building.”

Mr Fahey also stated how Mitsubishi Electric management realises that the company cannot work in isolation, which is why it actively seeks involvement in initiatives such as the Sustainability Hub.

“No-one has a magic ‘silver bullet’ to solve the issue of climate change, but through the leadership of initiatives like the Sustainability Hub, I’m confident the construction industry can play its part in helping Government develop the policies that will lead and encourage efficiency across the board, so that the country can achieve the ambitious carbon reduction targets that have been set.”
