BPMA set to host 2014 Europump in Scotland

THE BPMA (British Pump Manufacturers Association) has the honour of hosting next year’s Europump Annual Meeting in St Andrews, Scotland.

RICS has named

Manchester’s One Angel Square as Project of the Year at the RICS Awards Grand Final held at the Savoy Hotel in London. More than 600 building projects entered the RICS Awards which celebrate the built and natural environment. Host Katie Derham of the BBC hosted the event which also saw category awards presented for building conservation, community benefit, design and innovation, and regeneration.

The overall winning project – a £100m new headquarters for The Co- operative Group – is the largest commercial office building in Manchester and has also achieved the highest scoring BREEAM ‘outstanding’ office rating in the country, setting a new national benchmark in sustainable design in the commercial sector. RICS judges said every aspect of the building has been constructed with sustainability at heart, with leading technologies utilised throughout, including underground earth tubes that provide an amount of free heating and cooling.

Changing markets, new opportunities

POLITICAL agendas, new technologies, increased competitor activity and amplified customer expectation are changing the market.

For organisations who are innovative, embrace change and want to evolve this will present opportunities for growth and development; for those that don’t the future and even survival is less certain.

Both clients and suppliers from retail, housing, information technology and manufacturers will need to embrace the challenge of new ways of working and take advantage of the opportunities that will come out of the changing nature of the construction

and wider building service industries.

BSRIA’s briefing on 15 November will include leading industry speakers who will give their thought provoking views of how their businesses are changing and ideas of what the opportunities might be for their suppliers in the future. The briefing creates an environment for delegates to challenge and debate ideas, share experiences and network with other professionals from the industry.

The line-up includes John Tebbit of the Construction Products Association, who will chair the briefing; Bukky Bird, programme director for Tesco; Nicola Hayes,

managing director for DCD Intelligence, the research division of Datacenter Dynamics; Jeremy Towler, senior manager of Energy & Smart Technology at BSRIA; Nigel Ingram of the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust and Michael Beavan of Arup Associates.

The BSRIA Lunch follows the Briefing and features guest speaker Sir Clive Woodward, who famously guided England to victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and three Six Nations tournaments, including an elusive Grand Slam. He has since served as director of sport at the British Olympic Association, working in partnership with UK Sport.
