RECYCLINGROUNDUP

Last month the Department for Business Innovation & Skills released its summary of the responses to the WEEE consultation which closed earlier in the year.

The consultation, which received 256 responses, gave all those involved in WEEE a chance to voice their opinions on a number of key issues including changing the current household WEEE system. The consultation also asked some important questions for the lighting sector, in particular a proposal for putting LED and gas discharge lamps in the same WEEE category: a proposal which Recolight supports. The responses give the Government a powerful mandate for changing the household WEEE system, with 59% of respondents putting the status quo as their least favoured option. In addition, 84% of respondents agreed that LED and gas discharge lamps should be in one category. The Government is set to publish draft regulations soon, which are scheduled to come into effect at the start of 2014.

NATURAL BORN WINNERS

Lutterworth Ecolighting has won the Low-Energy Lighting Installer Award at this year’s Energy Efficiency and Renewables Awards.

The energy efficient lighting specialist has

been recognised for its many low energy lighting projects for business and industry, which collectively delivered CO2 savings in excess of £4 million tonnes in 2012 alone. This is the equivalent of taking 700,000 cars off the road. The award was presented to Lutterworth Ecolighting’s Managing Director Martin Needham by The Apprentice’s Nick Hewer, at a prestigious ceremony at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL

The ultra-cool MTV Moon Man Award statue was the inspiration for the the bold stage and presentation aesthetics for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The statue received a special 30th anniversary makeover this year by New Jersey street-artist KAWS. Collectively embracing fine art and pop art, Lighting Designer Tom Kenny worked the same style into multiple areas of the onstage lighting, with 80 of Robeʼs new Pointe multi-purpose moving light fixtures, a vital element of his rig of over 1000 moving heads. These were supplied to the event along with 32 Robe ROBIN LEDWash 600s and 20 LEDWash 1200s by rental specialist, VER. Robeʼs powerful, super-bright Pointes were positioned left and right of the stage and behind the VIP stage / seating area.
