Scholarships/grants: Powell was “pretty happy” when Luther’s finan- cial aid office told her she’d received an ELCA Stewards of Abundance scholarship. “That, with synod and congregational support, covers my tuition,” she said.
Does support make a difference? “It makes a really big difference,” Powell said. She expects to have only $35,000 in debt at graduation. “And this gives me some flexibility as far as kinds of calls I can take, although my husband’s profession (a professor at the University of Min- nesota, Minneapolis) is geographi- cally limiting,” she said.
