Responding to the needs of the most vulnerable, ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response provided $200,000 for the crisis in Angola and $150,000 for Namibia through a partnership with the Lutheran World Federation and ACT Alliance. On the ground, partners such as the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Angola, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia use the funds to provide food, water, sanitation, psychosocial care and livelihood support. The partners also help people gain knowl- edge about resilience in responding to future disasters and the capacity to
advocate for their rights.
Such help is critical in a part of the world where most households rely on cattle, goats, sheep, donkeys and poultry for their milk, meat and funds, and where no harvest is expected until March 2014. The drought has reduced water access and grazing pastures, forcing many to sell some of their livestock for fodder.
