Lutheran relief for Syria

As conflict in Syria continues to claim thousands of lives and displace mil- lions from their homes, nearly 4 mil- lion Syrians are at risk for severe mal- nutrition. Economic sanctions against Syria prevent supplies and medicines from reaching people in need. At the Lutheran World Federation-managed Za’atri Refugee Camp in Jordan, more than 120,000 displaced people have found food and shelter. To help, ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response has provided more than $1 million in gifts. More than 25 percent of Holy Trinity’s mem- bers participated (85 volunteers, ages 4 to 84), along with three other ELCA churches. For the service day, more than 60,000 yellow shirts were sold and at least 500 congregations signed up on the ELCA website indicating their projects—from cleaning up parks to feeding the hungry.
