he bi-annual 2013 Flying Aces Club (FAC) Non-Nats contest was held once again this past July in Gene- seo, New York, on the beautiful sod airfield of the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group. From Wednesday, July 17 through Saturday, July 20, in the midst of a midsum- mer heat wave, a hundred or so stick and tis- sue scale modelers gathered to show, fly and compete with their latest creations. For as long as there’s been an FAC Na-


tionals, there has been an FAC Non-Nats. From the beginning in the late 1970s, this aptly named off-year meet was intended to be a more casual and informal event. The Non-Nats provides a great venue for the FAC faithful to gather and fly, while allow- ing additional time to have that new model developed and ready to compete at the flag- ship FAC Nationals contest the following year.


Attendance at the FAC Non-Nats is typi-


cally about one-half that of the FAC Nation- als, but this year that benchmark was ex- ceeded with a strong turnout of more than one hundred contestants. A steady influx of new and active flyers keeps the Flying Aces Club in growth mode.
