lyzone is certainly making an im- pact at the flying field and their lat- est design, the Hadron, is no excep- tion. Anyone who knows me knows I have a penchant for scale model aircraft, whether it is freeflight, control line or R/C. So I was a bit shocked when a big box that contained a Flyzone Hadron showed up in my office one day. I had initially seen the Hadron at Toledo this past spring and then again at the Watts Over Owatonna event this past August. The delta shape craft has a vectoring thrust pusher motor that allows the Hadron to perform, as we say from my native land, “wicked flat spins”. While the Hadron seems to be a bit out of my usual for- ay into model aviation, I was still intrigued with its design and wondered what kind of fun I could have with this model. The first thing that made an impression on me was the size of the box, it’s large! Very large, in fact almost too large to fit in Jess, my Wrangler. Fortunately once the model is ready for flight, it will not take as much real estate in your hangar or vehicle. But should you want to head to your favorite hobby shop to purchase a Hadron, better take the van or SUV; it won’t fit in your Miata too easily.

Once I opened the box, I saw why the de- signers at Flyzone choose such a large box. The Hadron is well packed and is essentially 90% assembled. There is one piece for the wing and fuselage area with just the vertical tail and rudder that needs to be attached. A quick glance at the instructions and I learned that Hadron had more than just a few features under the hood.


The folks at Flyzone sent me a Tx-R ver- sion so a Tactic TR624 SLT 6-channel re- ceiver was already installed within the fuse- lage. This makes it a simple matter to bind the receiver to a Tactic transmitter, install the rates and go fly (more on that in a bit). The Hadron is also available as an Rx-R so you can install the receiver of your choice. You will also need a 2200 mAh battery if you go the route of the Rx-R. Since my version was the TX-R, an Electrifly 3S 2200 mAh battery was included. Unlike the Flyzone batteries that I have had before, the Electri- fly battery has a more universal Dean’s style connector versus the barrel type connectors of the Flyzone type. If you have been loyal to the Flyzone brand and have been charging their brand of batteries, you’ll need to pick up a Deans style charge harness.
