running television and radio listings magazine and in this wonderful exhibition the Museum of London explores the history of magazine

showcases dozens of its most memorable covers from the past nine decades. The magazine’s covers have celebrated momentous events of national and international importance from moon landings and the outbreak of war to World Cup victory and royal weddings. Its cover stars have included icons of popular culture such as Tony Hancock, The Beatles, Pete and Dud and the cast of ITMA amongst many other familiar faces and long running TV shows like EastEnders and Doctor Who. The exhibition takes visitors from


the BBC’s first radio transmission in London, with an original crystal radio set on display, through the war years when the Radio Times printing plant became a target for the Luftwaffe and up to the present day with the multi- channel listings of the digital television age. Visitors can listen to clips from past


radio and TV shows through headphones, including clips from The Goon Show and the very first episode of EastEnders; see the original CRW Nevinson painting used for the 1937 Coronation issue cover; and see the original 1941 Luftwaffe Stadtplan von London map showing BBC targets across London, as part of the war on propaganda. To coincide with the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who this year,

the exhibition includes a special section dedicated to the Radio T

ongoing relationship with the ever- popular BBC show. For Doctor Who fans there is an exclusive opportunity to become a Radio Times cover star by posing for a photo beside a genuine full-size dalek against a backdrop of Westminster Bridge, recreating the famous 2005 ‘Vote Dalek’ Radio T cover.

The Curve Ayse Erkmen: Intervals Opens 24th September

urkish artist Ayse Erkmen brings a very ambitious new installation to The Curve this


autumn. Throughout the long curved space of the gallery Erkmen presents a series of scenic backdrops, inspired by those found in theatre, ballet and opera, that are slowly raised and lowered by an automatic theatrical fly system specially adapted for The Curve. The backdrops feature a range


of subjects from The Mikado to futuristic interiors and are all painted by professional scenic artists and theatre design students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
