Searcy’s relaunches as Gin Joint
earcys restaurant on level 2 of the Barbican is currently closed for yet another revamp, and will have
relaunched by the time this issue is printed, as Gin Joint – a new style brasserie and bar with a cocktail emphasis, as the name suggests, on a range of London Dry Gins – maybe the spirit of the moment! Searcys claims that the ‘extensive new
bar list will offer exceptional cocktails that will convert the most ardent vodka fan’. This does seem to be a desire to have the restaurant appeal to a new, perhaps younger, clientele and may be as a result of the Barbican Centre itself having changed its programming over the years from perhaps primarily classical music and theatre to more avant garde productions. The new menu at the brasserie is to
specialise in the best of British grilled meats, seafood and lighter bites, while the pre-theatre menu (which became available from 3 September) is said to be ideal for those in a hurry at £16 for two courses and £20 for three courses which may help it compete with other options in the Barbican Centre and close by. Unfortunately the revamp will have
been completed between Barbican Life going to press and its publication so we are unable to grace these pages with a photograph of the new bar/restaurant. The new bar/brasserie is open for lunch from midday until 3pm Monday to
Friday and from 5pm to 10.30pm for dinner 7 days a week.

Hawksmoor to open Foxlow in St John Street
ill Beckett and Huw Gott, the restaurateurs behind the four Hawksmoor highly
praised speciality steak-oriented restaurants are to open a ‘non Hawksmoor’ restaurant in November in St John Street, called Foxlow. Details, at the time of writing are few and far between, although the owners say that it will be a smaller, more intimate restaurant that allows them to do many of the things they’ve wanted to do over the last few years, but which they couldn’t really squeeze onto a Hawksmoor menu. One assumes great steaks will be an
integral part of the Foxlow menu, but rather less dominant than they are at the existing Hawksmoor restaurants in Seven Dials (Covent Garden), Spitalfields, Air Street (Piccadilly), and our local one in Basinghall Street close to the Guildhall. Jugged Hare Game season menus now available One of our closest restaurants not actually within the complex, held a

special function on August 13th to launch its new game season menu. Anyone who walks past the gastropub up Silk Street, or has a drink at the bar there, can hardly fail to notice the game theme of the pub cum restaurant, which is becoming one of the best restaurants in London to partake of dishes based on wild game when in season.. The grouse shooting season starts on
August 12th (the Glorious 12th) and burger buns filled with grouse breast was one of the treats for those lucky enough to be invited to the function as were a Jugged Hare chef speciality snack - boneless grouse wings, breaded, deep- fried and served with a spiced bread sauce.
