manufacturer of timber doors and windows is saving £13,000 a year on electricity costs following the installation of ABB variable-speed drives (VSDs) on its extractor fan system.
The solution, provided by ABB Drives Alliance member Advantage Control, involved five ABB general purpose drives, ACS550, to control the speed of five extractor fans. Heron Brothers, based in Northern Ireland, sells its products to public sector bodies, large private building contractors and builders’ merchants in the UK and Ireland. The factory uses an extraction fan system to remove potentially harmful wood dust from the machinery to a large extraction unit with a filter and a rotary vane feeding a hopper. There are three 37 kW extraction fans, an 18.5 kW extraction fan and a 15 kW transfer fan, which runs continuously when the production machinery is switched on. The extraction fans were left running all day as the control panel for them is situated some distance from the machines they serve. The fans also had to be started in a set sequence to avoid overloading the supply on start-up.

Two new models of the T40B digital torque flange

BM has launched two new models of its T40B digital torque flange with 50 Nm and 100 Nm torque measurement ranges making the transducer suitable for a wider range of applications. The compact design of the T40B means the torque flange can be easily integrated into various applications such as for e-motor testing and hybrid drive systems. The optional magnetic speed measurement system generates 1024 pulses per revolution enabling very accurate speed measurements even at low speeds. The T40B has been designed as a precise and robust system for measuring torque and speed accurately even under the most difficult industrial environment conditions. The torque flange utilizes the magnetic measurement principle so that oil vapors and dirt have no impact on results. Data transmission between the rotor and stator is digital so that any interferences are practically excluded.

WE2111 Weighing Indicator
BM has developed the WE2111 weighing indicator with modern Ethernet and USB interfaces to increase peak measurement accuracy and speed for users of industrial and truck scales as well as complying with all current legislation. Measurements from industrial and truck scales can now be easily integrated with, and made accessible to, higher-level systems through the use of the Ethernet and USB interfaces. The use of the USB interface also enables rapid and regular updates of the not-legal-for-trade firmware components.

current guidelines, including the latest WELMEC requirements, directive 2009/23/EC, are consistently complied with. The WE2111 replaces the WE2110, the market-leading product since 1997,
and
combines the advantages of the earlier model with modern modifications to meet future needs. The WE2111 can, in most cases, be exchanged directly with the previous model to upgrade existing systems. The WE2111 also features a legal-for-trade data memory that offers users additional security as it enables the legal traceability of the scale values and therefore ensures high-quality documentation. HBM says it is setting new standards in terms of accuracy and functionality with the WE2111.
