Products Technology File Fibre amplifiers deliver stability and resolution
Omron has expanded its N-Smart portfolio of smart laser sensors and amplifiers with the launch of the E3NX-FA range of fibre amplifiers. Available with a single output as standard and two outputs on advanced models, these amplifiers offer fast auto-tuning, support for manual tuning and a dynamic range to ensure stable detection of targets. With advanced smart tuning, the user presses the tuning button once with the target present, and again with the target absent, to automatically set the optimum incident level and threshold. Manual tuning options are also supported to enable the detection mode and threshold to be optimised, ensuring greater detection stability in challenging applications. The dynamic range has been increased by a factor of 40,000
New optical micrometer
Micrometers have typically adopted a laser scan method using physical moving parts, resulting in a limitation on the ability to improve speed and accuracy. Keyence has introduced its new LS-9000 Digital Microscope that utilises a high speed exposure CMOS + high intensity green LED method that eliminates the need for moving parts, achieving improve- ments in speed and accuracy. The elimination of moving parts also gives the model high durability, longevity and high speed measurement.
The LS-9000 Series has achieved a fast sampling rate (16,000Hz) - even fast moving tar- gets can be measured accurately at narrow pitches.
The high speed exposure of CMOS ensures reliable image cap- turing and stable measurement even when targets are vibrating. Also, the Monitor CMOS cancels errors resulting from tilted targets. The no moving parts design reduces the need for maintenance and the LED light source is less affected by electrical noise, resulting in stable use in factory environments for longer periods. Keyence

to provide enhanced detection reliability. Incident light adjust- ment in as little as 30µs in high speed mode enables more stable detection of faster targets. The E3NX-FA features Omron’s Dynamic Power Control (DPC) technology to automatically compensate for changes in the incident light level. Another feature of the E3NX-FA ampli- fiers is the high contrast, white on black display that is clearly visible even from long distances. E3NX-FA amplifiers are available pre-wired (two metre length) or with a wire saving connector. An additional model offers connection to an EtherCAT-based sensor communications unit for high speed transmission of I/O- signals and incident light levels.

Enter 223 Touch operated IP65 industrial panel PCs
New from Phoenix Contact is the DL 1000 series industrial panel PCs. Featuring IP65 protection and offering high resolution LED technology, the PCs support complex user interfaces, multi-touch capac- ity and can be installed quickly and easily, directly on a machine.
Due to their fan-less and energy efficient design, they are well suited for future operating concepts in industrial systems.
Users can decide between single- or multi-touch
displays to suit the application at hand. This also accommodates future machine operating modes such as gesture control. The slim 60mm panel PCs are pro- tected by a die-cast aluminium housing and resist dust and water according to protection class IP65. These devices can be used in extreme tempera- tures ranging from -20°C up to 55°C, which also makes them suitable for refrigeration systems. The industrial PCs are energy efficient thanks to the built-in Intel Atom E series, a combination of an integrated chipset and a power saving processor. This processor series’ low power consumption is also reflected in the low heat it generates, which means that the units do not require built-in ventilation. An integrated VESA 100 bracket and a rear panel service hatch provides quick installation and servic- ing. The industrial PC is equipped with a heavy duty touch screen that can be used as an operating console for machine related use in rough industrial environ- ments. There is also a choice of HDD or SDD and Windows Embedded Standard 7 or Windows 7 Pro to store necessary data and run chosen applications. Phoenix Contact

Enter 224 Lightweight rugged tablets introduced in the UK
In response to the growth of the mobile computing market, SolutionsPT has formed a partnership with 40 year old IT hard- ware specialist, Maxa Technologies (Maxatec), to provide a range of lightweight mobile tablets designed to meet the demands of the industrial world.
Offering enterprise mobility, the Pidion BP50, BP70 and BP80
are fully rugged tablets available with 7" or 10" screens, designed for anyone who wants to improve productivity and interrogate data on the move.
The design allows users to look at diagrams and systematics on a lightweight handheld device, specifically designed for industrial use.
The range of tablets use Pidion ‘TankSmith’ technology for the outer chassis and a Corning Gorilla-Glass screen to offer resilience to impact. Partnered with an IP65 rating for dust and water ingress, the device can also withstand multiple drops from heights in excess of one metre. Every Pidion tablet comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication as standard, with 4G LTE and NFC as readily avail- able options.
The BP tablets are available with either Windows 7/8 or Android 4.0 operating systems as well as a range of ‘Smart-Plugs’ to enable features such as a magnetic stripe reader for user authentication by swiping ID cards, or a 1D and 2D barcode scanner option.
40 Wayne Ashworth, mobile product manager at SolutionsPT said,
“IT products have been slowly making their way to the manufactur- ing floor for some time now, and although tablet PCs are a fantastic tool to access and interrogate real time data on the move, consumer grade tablet PCs are not designed to withstand the rigours of the industrial environment. This partnership with Maxatec will enable us to deliver a robust mobile computing solution to help our clients improve productivity.” The product range is being offered by Maxatec with a three year manufacturing defect warranty as standard.
