Printed by Stephen & George, Wales “The Audio Media team and myself are lucky enough to be
attending a number of these shows in the coming months and they seem poised to be massive.”
Back home in the UK, it’s inspiring to see PLASA moving into the ExCeL centre and receiving the support it deserves from major pro-audio brands. It’s especially refreshing to see a number of first time exhibitors including Pioneer, Aspen Media, and Sony, joining the estimated 250 other brands that will fill the event space in October.
Moving away from the big trade shows, we’ll also be attending the first ever Game Music Connect event at London’s Southbank Centre. The one-day event is hosted by regular Audio Media contributor John Broomhall (who also wrote this month’s feature on The Last Of Us on page 32) and features a line-up of major names in the game audio world including award-winning composers and audio directors from Sony, Microsoft, Bungie, and Jagex.
While it’s shaping up to be a busy month I’m more than excited to head out and see some people while getting a glimpse of what’s next for the industry.
Hope to see you out there. Jory MacKay, Deputy Editor
SEPTEMBER HAS always been ingrained in my mind as a time for change. Whether this has to do with the shifting of seasons and the end of summer, or some remnant from my student days is still yet to be determined, but one thing is for sure: as the long lazy days of August tick over into September, everyone appears ready for something new. This mentality seems to also permeate throughout the pro-audio industry as the automatic out-of-office replies have turned into a deluge of proposed meetings and product launches scheduled for IBC, PLASA, and AES, as well as a whole host of other shows that, until recently, I wasn’t even aware existed.
The Audio Media team and myself are lucky enough to be attending a number of these shows in the coming months and they seem poised to be massive. At IBC in Amsterdam, I’m very excited to see new products from Lawo, Yamaha, Calrec, RTW, Avid, and Cedar, among others. I’m also especially looking forward to some of the educational events and checking out what the R&D teams from companies like the BBC, NHK, and Cisco have been up to in the Future Zone (See our full IBC preview on page 18 for an in-depth run through of the event).
