AUDIOLAB WILL return in 2013 with a pro-audio arena, theatre, and interactive lab. The AudioLab Arena is a purpose-built space for large-format loudspeaker demonstrations, shoot-outs of club sound and PA systems, and private exclusive demo rooms, while the AudioLab Theatre is an audio school with three expert classes: Live Sound, Installed Sound, and The Sound Business. The third new attraction is
It’s all change for the London show with a new venue, a host of new exhibitors, and a major programme of pro-audio content.

PLASA LONDON 2013 will feature more than 30 companies that did not exhibit in 2012, including Pioneer, Samsung, and Sony, while many existing exhibitors have taken bigger stand space than last year. Alex Barrand, Audio Specialist at Pioneer, said: “We are returning to PLASA after a few years’ hiatus as it is the ideal platform from

which to launch our new Professional Audio business. We’re also delighted to present the first public showcase of our club speakers at PLASA.” Pioneer will demonstrate its new speakers in the AudioLab arena, theatre, and interactive lab.
Also making its show debut is Azule Finance, which will be highlighting the
financing solutions it has to offer and share it experiences of projects including deals with some of the UK’s leading hire companies to finance equipment for festivals, including Glastonbury, CreamFields, Bestival, Secret Garden Party, and Reading and Leeds. Gavin Scott, Sales Director at Azule, commented: “Having become a member
of PLASA earlier this year, it was a natural step for us to attend the event with a greater physical presence to increase our visibility within the industry. PLASA is well established as a landmark event for the live sound and lighting sectors, which are key markets for us. Our decision to exhibit this year shows our long-term desire to increase our partnerships
with dealers and manufacturers while continuing to building our customer base.”
Other exhibitors that are new for 2013 include Samsung, Sony, Creative Technology, Aspen Media, PRG, and Sound Network. Shure, Martin Audio, Roland, SSE Audio, and Harman have increased their stand space this year.

AudioLab Interactive, a myth-busting laboratory where visitors can see live experiments on a range of pro-audio equipment. Created in conjunction with audio consultancy RH Consulting, AudioLab Interactive gathers pro-audio experts from around the globe to test pro- audio theory. The programme includes experiments entitled ‘Who says audio latency is a problem?’ ‘Let’s blow up some amplifiers!’, ‘What happens during an emergency?’ and ‘What really causes interference?’ ‘Who says audio latency is
a problem?’ will examine the issue of latency in digital audio systems and use a live performance to find out at what point it starts to affect musicians. It will measure latency across a system, find

out where the delays are, and more importantly, ask do they matter in a real-world situation? In ‘Let’s blow up some
amplifiers!’ attendees will learn the difference between amplifier types and find out how they work, including what happens when they get hot, what can affect the quality and the power output, what is power factor, and what protection circuitry does. This session also asks, can you use your amplifier to put up shelves or make toast? ‘What happens during an
emergency?’ is the third session in AudioLab Interactive and features a real-time simulation of what happens in a public space before an audio announcement takes place. The 45-minute session will demonstrate an active voice alarm system and give an insight into the operation of world-class stadiums. It will show a stadium system, attempt to break it, illustrate how a redundant system works, and show how a signal path flows following damage. And finally, ‘What really
causes interference?’ looks at the different causes of interference and compares the tales and truths of how audio systems can be corrupted.
