NEWS >>> INSTALLATION BOOOM! Chooses Pioneer System
BOOOM! IBIZA has become the world’s first club to specify a bespoke Pioneer club sound system. BOOOM! commissioned
Pioneer to design the sound system for the entire venue, including the main dance floor, VIP dance floor, DJ console, bar floor, upper bar, VIP rooms on levels two and three, and DJ VIP area. Working with local AV
and events company, The Shop Ibiza, Pioneer installed four three-metre-high GS- WAVE stacks in each corner of the dance floor. The GS- WAVE’s deep, warm bass is provided by a WAV-SUB multi-fold hyperbolic horn subwoofer with two 18in rear-loaded drivers, and an optional large horn extension that adds another 4dB at 50Hz. Two high-power
WAV-LOW speakers deliver a tight punchy kick in the low to mid range. Finally the WAV-LENS is loaded with two coaxial compression drivers, to ensure clear sound reproduction, and Pioneer’s Acoustic Lens for a wide horizontal dispersion. The DJ console features six
XY-122 12in monitors and a pair of XY-215S 15in quasi- bandpass subwoofers. In-fill is supplied across the club by a
further 39 XY-122 speakers, 10 XY-81 8in ultra-compact speakers, and 15 XY-118S 18in bass reflex subs. The whole system is powered by Powersoft K Series amplifiers – seven K-6s, 11 K-2s and 24 K-3s – all with in-built DSP. The Powersoft K Series
amplifiers optimise the performance of the Pioneer club speaker system with pre- set data and networked DSP.

AES Convention To Hold ‘Sound for Picture’ Workshops
THE UPCOMING 135th AES Convention in New York City, to be held on 17-20 October, will feature a special workshop track, ‘Sound for Picture,’ chaired by acclaimed film sound department professional Brian McCarty (On Golden Pond, The Big Lebowski, Dick Tracy). This series has been put together by AES’s Sound for Digital Cinema and TV Committee. The sessions will each feature different Oscar- and/or Emmy-nominated/ winning figures discussing their craft and the latest technology and techniques used for sound capture, mixing, editing, loudness, and more. “The Sound for Picture
workshops have been a huge hit at recent conventions, and at the upcoming New York
show, we have taken the programme to the next level,” noted McCarty. “Attendees will learn about the most advanced and current tools and operations used by Hollywood to produce every aspect of sound for film and TV. “I am excited for every
session, but especially for the reality TV segment. This is sure to be a highly informative and entertaining session for all in attendance. Additionally, I am excited for the three masterclass sessions – this is the first time that music production, sound design, and dialogue editing/mixing for film have been assembled together into a masterclass series. ” Look out for Audio Media’s
full AES Convention preview in the October issue.
