You Have Been Quiet M

odern Casting magazine tries to reflect the industry it serves. The articles focus on improving production while at

the same time looking to provide better ways and methods to manage your metalcasting facilities from a marketing, human resources and finan- cial perspective. Many of you, our readers, have grown up on the production side of the business, ascending to a management level after spending time on the plant floor, so our focus reflects your history. But our focus

also is on educating and entertaining you. If our coverage only reflected what you already knew, neither of these would be the case. To that end,

this month three of our regular departments pres- ent a “lighter” side to metalcasting. A World Without Castings on p. 21 talks about cast- ing in the world of golf. Shakeout on p. 64 looks at the influence the foundry world has had on the Methodist church. Industry News on p. 14 covers a new metalcasting mural in Michi- gan. Hopefully, you enjoy reading these pages as much as our staff enjoys delivering them to you. These departments work in unison with the

feature lineup focusing on melting, pouring and melt treatment. The great thing about melting is everyone in metalcasting does it, regardless of process or metal. Our three melt-related fea- tures strive to deliver tips based on plant-related experiences to improve your efficiencies, quality and bottom-line. Te question I have is: Are we providing you

what you want and need with this issue and, more importantly, with all our offerings in print, on the

section of the magazine has been fairly quiet recently. We have one this month on p. 13 that compliments our recent introduction of augmented reality capabilities within the magazine to provide you videos, slideshows and animated graphics right from the pages of the magazine. But that is the ex- ception recently. Please take a

moment away from production and send us an email to let us know if Modern Casting is providing you what you want. (My email is below and other staff emails are on p. 4). Find a quiet place at the plant or at home and let us know what the most press- ing issue is for you as a professional metalcaster. Pull out that keyboard (actual or digital) and rattle off your biggest gripe about our industry or the different constituencies that affect it every day. Remember, Modern Casting is a magazine developed, written, edited and published for you—the met- alcasting industry. You are as much a

part of these pages each month as the staff put- ting them together.
