RONBECK SHINES IN SHOWCASE

Youth was definitely served during the girls’ Champion All-American Showcase at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

On the one hand, you had a great preview of one of the youngest college programs in the country, USC, on full display. Six future Trojans – Kylie Drexel, Drew Jackson, Nina Kelty, Michaela Michael, Shannon Nugent and Annie Ruland – made their presence known during the event. Drexel and Jackson played on the Pride team that won the championship.

Lindsey Ronbeck, stealing the show.

Ronbeck, a rising junior at Manhasset (N.Y.) High and Florida commit, scored three goals to lead Liberty to a 15-11 victory over Pride in the July 23 final. She played at the same complex just last year as part of the US Lacrosse Girls’ U15 National Championship event with the Long Island Liberty.

One year later, Ronbeck was ready for the big stage.

“I was on varsity as a freshman at my high school, so I had to get used to playing with older girls and the pace of the game,” she said.

Ronbeck finished the four-game All-American Showcase with 10 goals. She said the event gave her an opportunity to learn from older players as she continues her high school career. “It was a great

experience to get to know all of the older girls and see what their college experience was going to be like — their summer workouts for their teams and also what they went through in the recruiting process,” she said.
