program and it is PCA-based. If you don’t like it, you can take your kid elsewhere.’ We sign PCA partnerships every year, and that’s partly why we’ve had so much success.” The CLL began with fewer than 60
boys, and it now boasts more than 300 boys and girls. But it was soon after Smith’s 2004 arrival at US Lacrosse and her leadership of a committee that developed the fi rst curricula for the CEP that changed Greene’s involvement in the sport forever. One of the fi rst content authors for the CEP on the boys’ side was veteran University of Delaware coach Bob Shillinglaw. “Bob was a friend of mine, and I had
heard he was doing that,” Greene said. “I went to the fi rst CEP clinic that was a part of the convention. Nathaniel Badder was one of the trainers. I got hooked. I started learning so much from the coaching side (through the CEP), that I thought, ‘If I can learn it here, I’d love to be able to teach it to people.’ Now it’s one of my favorite things to do in life.” Love rekindled, indeed. USL Announces Portion of 2014 Event Lineup
Volunteers like Kevin Greene have raised
the level of US Lacrosse’s educational and outreach events like the Fast Break Initiative, and they’ll play a large role in making the national governing body’s expanded lineup of tournaments next year a success. In addition to hosting the 2014 Federation
of International Lacrosse (FIL) Men’s World Championships July 10-19 in Denver, at which an estimated 40 nations will compete, US Lacrosse will host no fewer than six tournaments across the country. Depending on the event, age divisions will give players as young as U11 and as old as 60 (and over) the opportunity to play lacrosse, bond with teammates and make new friends. The lineup includes four US Lacrosse Regional Championships, the sixth-annual US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, and the World Lacrosse Festivals. “It’s going to be an exciting year for
our members who are active players and coaches,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “Pretty much regardless of age, our members will have the chance to play lacrosse in environments

that match the high standards we have for our events.” US Lacrosse will welcome boys’ and girls’
U13-U15 teams to regional championships in California, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Discounts on registration fees will allow coaches or club directors to bring multiple teams from the same organization at a reduced rate. Coaches also can save by registering teams prior to Nov. 30. At the U15 level, the top four teams at each regional will earn automatic invitations with free or reduced registration to the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships in the Denver suburb of Aurora, Colo. “We love the competition and the ability
to play teams from all over the country,” said Joe Brown, head coach of the Pacifi c Falcons (Calif.), a club that has qualifi ed for each of the fi ve US Lacrosse U15 National Championships. “Every player that attends this event elevates their game over the coming 365 days.” There may be some tweaking to the lineup,
but team leaders, coaches and parents largely can plan on this:
