PEYTON REMEMBERING MOORE

On June 4, 2013, nine-year-old Peyton Moore passed away at the Medical University of South Carolina following complications from a likely seizure he suffered in his sleep. He left behind a loving family and a love for track and field.

The impact he left in just nine years on earth is astonishing.

His life revolved around track and field and he was good at it, too. He was the top thrower for his age in the state of South Carolina in both the javelin and the shot put.

It was Moore’s presence that helped guide his father, Noah, away from an unhealthy lifestyle and to losing 100 pounds in two years, likely saving his life. Noah is now active in running marathons and ultra-marathons and updates “Moore on Running,” which is a blog promoting the sport of long distance running, and has become a certified running coach. He credits Peyton with the biggest hand in producing all of it.

When other kids his age were still sleeping, each Sunday Peyton and Noah would run in a local Couch to 5K group. One of the favorites of the group, Peyton could sense when new runners were struggling and he was always the first to offer encouragement.

On the Sunday following his death, nearly 300 people gathered to join the group. They ran for Peyton.

A regular reader of Fast Forward with the dream to one day appear in the magazine, USA Track & Field would like to dedicate this page to Peyton, his family and the positive impact he left on our sport.
