ALL-TIME MARKS


Held in conjunction with the USA Outdoor Championships in June at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, the 2013 edition of the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships witnessed athletes defending junior national championship titles and reaching all-time best American marks. Courtney Okolo (Carrollton, Texas) moved her name up to No. 8 on the U.S. junior all-time list with her winning time in the women’s 400m at 51.04. Brianna Nerud (North Shore, N.Y.) repeated as the women’s junior 3,000m steeplechase champion in a time of 10:15.67. Nerud also holds the American record in the event. LISTEN TO NERUD DISCUSS HER SECOND STRAIGHT USA JUNIOR TITLE HERE.


The nation’s dominant high school hammer thrower over the past two seasons, Rudy Winkler (Averill Park, N.Y.) won that event by close to 20 feet to defend the title he won last year in Bloomington, Ind. Matt McClintock (Athens, Maine) continues to prove he is a rising star in American distance running with his runaway win in the men’s 10,000m by more than 21 seconds in 31:14.31. McClintock was the top Team USA finisher at the recent World Cross Country Championships.


William & Mary’s Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio), who currently sat fourth on the all-time U.S. junior list in the women’s 5,000m thanks for her 15:45.31 at the Mt. SAC Relays, ran away from competitors to win that event in Des Moines. Her winning time of 16:13.77 was more than 47 seconds ahead of second place.


COURTNEY OKOLO


Tim White (Newhall, Calif.) of the College of the Canyons had two efforts over 16 meters in the men’s triple jump, taking advantage of a legal aiding wind to span 16.18m/53-1 and move to sixth on the 2013 world junior list.


William & Mary’s Bobby Smutsky (Dillard, Pa.) reached a big personal best to win the men’s junior javelin by more than ten feet at 69.08m/226-8.
