Please tell me about your firm and your work within it.
At Del Valle Torres, we assist foreign and domestic clients to understand the Mexican international tax framework and achieve tax efficient results. Our team of highly knowledgeable professionals has extensive experience in tax advice and tax planning, cross border transactions, fund formation, transfer pricing and tax litigation.
In my practice
at Del Valle Torres S.C., I specialize in planning and structuring private and public real estate investment funds, planning and structuring real estate acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate reorganizations. More specifically, I have substantial experience structuring venture capital, private equity, and commodity funds on behalf of national and international fund sponsors, as well as structuring investments in such funds for taxable and tax-exempt, Mexican and foreign investors.
What is your favourite aspect of your work and why?
Complex tax work allows me to rely on my experience and expertise while challenging me to think creatively. At Del Valle Torres, I have the pleasure of tackling some of the most complex Mexican and cross-border tax issues happening in the market today. Moreover, the dynamic nature of tax law and the need to stay on top of constantly changing trends keeps my work challenging and engaging. Tax law is a demanding field that requires creativity and sharp thinking.
What are the key issues you deal with on a regular basis?
To achieve tax efficient real estate investment
structures and cross-border transactions that accommodate the needs of investors around the world with different tax profiles.
Del Valle Torres, S.C. has one of the preeminent fund tax practices in Mexico. Our fund practice is very extensive and the funds we have worked on include funds with both Mexico and non-Mexico investment focus and which seek to attract capital globally through public and private placements. The Firm advises some of the preeminent fund sponsors in the world.
The Firm also represents some of the most well-known fund investors in their review of prospective investments in funds, which gives the Firm a broader insight into emerging trends and developments in the fund environment.
Del Valle Torres S.C., also provides tax advice to high net-worth and ultra high-net-worth individuals, international banks and insurance companies on the design of products for purposes of estate and wealth planning.
What are the main cases you work on, and within which sectors? What are the key challenges and complexities to arise from this?
My practice mainly focuses on real estate fund structuring and real estate tax consulting. Most recently, I have been very active working with clients to appropriately structure publicly traded Mexican real estate investment trusts focused on the retail and industrial sectors (which have placed in the aggregate more than US$2 billion in the Mexican stock exchange and the New York stock exchange), and advising on the acquisition of large real estate portfolios by such real estate investment trusts worth in the aggregate approximately US$1 billion. One of the greatest challenges has been to provide
our clients with innovative and practical legal solutions in a highly competitive and demanding market.
What has been your biggest achievement in your legal career so far?
With our emphasis on rigorous legal analysis and uncompromising customer service, in only five years of existence, we have built Del Valle Torres, S.C. into a leading firm in the fund structuring and real estate tax fields. LM
